Amazing Terrain and Snow, All to Yourself
We can't come straight out and promise you perfect chest deep powder, but we can certainly stack the cards in your favour, and we will. With a strict adherence to our 'small group' heli skiing policy and our expansive tenure, crossing tracks won't ever cross your mind. There's no need to “farm the snow”, and we encourage our guests to gobble up as much freshies as they want as well as be creative in their choice of lines. We have more than enough terrain to play with. Add our consistently stable and reliably deep snowpack and more often then not, the Bella Coola experience will deliver the finest heli skiing and snowboarding on the planet.
Tweedsmuir Lodge Heliskiing, Pantheon Heliskiing
Never Run Out Of Untracked Snow!
Combine Vail Colorado, Whistler BC and the entire Swiss Alps, cover everything with powder snow, then remove all but 16 of the skiers, and you have Bella Coola Heli Sports' Tweedsmuir Lodge program. With over 10,700 sq/km (4,300 sq/m) of breathtaking heliski & snowboard terrain, a strict limit on the number visitors per week, and jet powered helicopters, this is the ultimate heliskiing and heliboarding destination.
The Perfect Heli Skiing Geography
The range of mountains from Bella Coola south to Mt. Waddington, at the southern end of our opertating area, are one the most dramatic and scenic anywhere in the world. By Himalayan standards, the peaks are not particularly high (which is better for breathing), but they are very wild and remote. Many peaks and even whole valleys are still unnamed. There are no towns, no roads, no ski lifts, and no people. This is of course perfect for heli skiing!
Snowfall
British Columbia enjoys a well deserved reputation for having the most reliable snow in the world. During the winter months, weather systems roll in like clock work off the Pacific and as they pass over the mountains the moisture is deposited as snow. The Coast Mountains are the first range to be hit and as a result get the majority of the snow.
Bella Coola is 80 kms inland from the open Pacific at the head of a long fjord. Further inland, on the eastern edge, the lee side of the Coast Range, is the Tweedsmuir Park Lodge. This is the ideal place from which to base because as the storms pass over the Coast Mountains they dry out.
With an abundance of snow to the west and a sunnier, drier climate pushing in from the east, we have found the ideal location for heli skiing. During a storm cylce we can ski the trees close to the lodge, but during a high pressure, we can ski the big snow zones to the west and the high peaks to the south. There are always fresh tracks to be found.
Most years there is a 4 to 5 metre base in the alpine with total snowfall averaging 20 to 30 metres (65 to 100 feet) over the course of the season!
Snowpack Stability
The snow pack in Bella Coola is known for being significantly more stable than most. This is direct result of our consistent and temperate climate, combined with reliable and plentiful snowfall. P
Having what are generally low recorded avalanche hazards, allows us to offer a more exciting skiing and snowboarding product. Although saftey is always the overriding determinant, we can usually access steeper and more interesting terrain then most of our competitors.
Big Alpine Vertical
Those who have heliskied with us in Bella Coola know our strength is high alpine terrain and majestic scenery. This scenery is scattered with jagged rock towers, giant glacier bowls and steep couloirs crowned by enormous peaks. Many of our runs are 5000 to 6000 vertical feet (1500 to 1800 vertical metres), with the longest yielding 7000 vertical feet (2150 vertical meters) of leg-burning utopia.
Tree Skiing
When the storms roll in and the snow is falling we go ski the trees. We have many great tree runs only a few minutes flight away. In addition, these tree runs are getting better all the time. Every autumn we have a team of our guides out "glading" for 2-3 weeks. This includes removing low branches and cutting down the little trees between the big ones, making it possible to open up the terrain significantly for heliskiing.

Alternative Adventures
Fortunately there's no shortage of other adventures in Bella Coola to enjoy, be it because of a weather day, or because you've reached your vertical target or need a rest day. This is a perfect opportunity to take in some of the many adventures offered by the Bella Coola valley. Special Note: Some, not all, of these activities involve additional fees for rental equipment, transportation and guiding services. These activities are also available to non-skiing guests.
River Fishing
Both the Atnarko and the Bella Coola Rivers have a long history and offer world-class sport fishing opportunities. Keen anglers are invited to bring their own equipment. We are strong supporters of fly-fishing, and the catch & release program.
Sightseeing & Hiking
From quick hikes in the old growth forest to more intense hiking throughout the valley, points of interest can include the Sir Alexander MacKenzie Grease Trail. This trail marks the culmination of the first crossing of the North American continent in 1793.
Mountain Biking
The main road past the lodge is usually snow free in the winter and an excellent place to go for a ride. There is very little traffic and the scenery is simply spectacular. Later in the spring it is also possible to go for rides on the many forest service roads in the valley.
Native Culture
The Nuxalk ("new hawk") culture is expressed in the Bella Coola valley, both through traditional dances and native arts. There are a number of small galleries highlighting local artists and carvers. Some of the local carvings are displayed in the Smithsonian museum. Arts and crafts are available for purchase. Tours to the 10,000-year-old Petroglyphs are also very popular and a local Nuxalk guide can accompany you.
Natural Hot Springs & Harbour Tours
These tours can be taken by our A Star B2 helicopters or by boat. The hot springs are situated on the coast of Bentinck Arm inlet, providing a beautiful eco-setting in which to relax and soak.

Base 1: Tweedsmuir Lodge Heli Skiing
Your expectations will be surpassed!
Enjoy awe-inspiring heliskiing & heliboarding terrain, a heli on your front lawn, gourmet dining, superior service, and luxury lodge accommodation in a wilderness setting. This is the perfect place for you and your closest friends to come for the best heliski holiday of your collective lives.
Tweedsmuir Lodge Heli Skiing is our original heliskiing and heli boarding location. We have been hosting heliskiers here since 2001. Today we offer two different types of heli skiing program plus two completely unique skiing experiences.
The "Private Heli Experience" is based on a set amount of flying time. This is ideal for a group of up to four people wanting the maximum amount of flexibility and exclusivity. The program can also be booked as a sem-private, in which case there is space for up to eight people flying as two groups of four per helicopter.
The "Vertical Heli Ski Program" is based on set amount of vertical feet of heli skiing included over the course of your stay. The program is ideal for solo travelers, couples and small groups of friends. The main advantage for our guests is that they know how much heliskiing is included in the package. Hint: since we have the advantage of heli skiing in small groups of four, encourage 3 or more of your friends/family to join you so that you have your own private group!
The "Ski Safari" program opens up the entire 10,700 sq/km (4,300 sq/m or 2.64 million acres) of our playground to groups wanting to explore and heliski where no one else has previously.
The "Rod and Ski Club" program runs in the summer and includes heliskiing velvety, smooth, corn snow (also known as firn snow) in the morning and the chance to catch King and Spring Salmon in the afternoon.
Accommodation is at the Tweedsmuir Park Lodge with a maximum capacity of 18 people per week. We generally fly with loads of four people and one guide, but on occasion fly with up to five people in the machine.
Check "Details" tab up top for more information on the different packages!
Base 2: Big Mountain Heli Lodge
Heli-Skiing And Heli-Boarding The Way You Want!
Our Big Mountain Adventure programs are our specialty heliski programs. Whether you want to maximize your vertical, ski more challenging terrain, or enjoy the mountains at a more leisurely pace while still benefiting from all that a helicopter has to offer, then check out the programs listed in this section.
The "Big Mountain Vertical" program is designed for people wanting to maximize their heliskiing and boarding for a given dollar spent. There is no cavier or champagne, but there is lots of turns, small groups and a maximum of 3 groups per helicopter.
The "Steep Skiing Challenge" program is for individuals and groups wanting to ski or board bigger slopes and steeper lines then what is traditionally available in commerical heli skiing. Bella Coola is the ideal place for this and is why we first started coming here. The terrain is big, the snow sticks to steeper slopes and our guides have lots of experience with this sort of thing.
The "Heli-Assist Ski Touring" program is a combination ski touring and heli ski week. You get the best of both worlds. The thrill and speed of helicopter accessed skiing as well as the quiet and solitude of ski mountaineering. Ski great powder as well as get great exercise in the most stunning locations imagineable.
Check "Details" tab up top for more information on the different packages!
Base 3: Pantheon Heli Ranch
Heli Skiing's Final Frontier!
Enjoy huge unexplored peaks, first descents as far as the eye can see, and genuine home-style ranch hospitality. With a maximum capacity of eight people per week, this is the perfect place for a close group of friends. You can book the entire facility and have a whole mountain range all to yourselves.
Our Pantheon ski terrain surrounds Mt Waddington, British Columbia's highest peak. A number of prominent Hollywood films including: “K2”, “Kundun” and “Seven Years in Tibet” were shot here because of the Himalayan scale of the slopes and escarpments.
The area is heavily glaciated, with thick forests and deep valleys guarding the flanks. The peak lay undiscovered until 1925 and was at first named Mystery Mountain. To this day the area is extremely wild and inaccessible, unless you have a trusty helicopter that is!
Pantheon Heli Skiing is the newest member of the Bella Coola Heli Sports family. Accommodation is at the White Saddle Ranch, a pioneering cattle station straddling the remote Chilcotin Plateau and majestic Coast Mountains.
It is possible to book either a semi-private heliskiing experience for up to eight people (two groups sharing one machine) or a private heli program with one load in the machine for up to four people. In addition, Pantheon also hosts our Heli Skiing Safari programs.
Pantheon Heli Skiing is a very unique skiing experience, and to date only a handful of lucky groups have skied here. You and your friends should be next.!

In utilising this offering, the Group leader making the booking promises that they are authorised to act on behalf of their travel companions, in particular to arrange travel-related services and to conclude contractual arrangements in the name of the Travellers. The Group leader is liable to LUEX as the joint and several debtor in addition to the individual Travellers for the payment of the travel-related products and services booked. Legally binding declarations received by the Group leader are deemed to have been received by all Travellers in the tour group.
4. Bookings
To the extent that no further commitment periods have been agreed, the following shall apply: By filling in the booking templates and confirming the booking procedure, the Traveller/Group leader commissions LUEX to finalise the intermediated procurement with the Service provider. A confirmation of receipt from LUEX with respect to an order immediately after the Traveller/Group leader has transmitted the data does not constitute a binding confirmation of the intermediated travel-related products and services.
Immediately upon receipt of the booking, LUEX shall assess the availability of all the booked products and services from the Service provider/s. Following this assessment, the Traveller/Group leader shall be issued a booking confirmation. The Traveller/Group leader is obliged to check this confirmation carefully immediately upon receipt. If information appearing on the confirmation or in another document is incorrect or incomplete, the Traveller/Group leader is obliged to inform LUEX immediately - in text form if possible. Alterations at a later point in time can only be considered if LUEX could reasonably be expected to make such changes. Unreasonable alterations are such changes in particular that involve additional costs for LUEX, unless the Traveller/Group leader reimburses these costs.
A binding agreement between the Traveller and the respective Service provider shall only eventuate when the binding booking confirmation has been transmitted to the Traveller/Group leader; the automatic LUEX confirmation of receipt is not a booking confirmation.
The following applies when a Group leader makes a booking for several Travellers: With their booking, the Group leader confirms that they are permitted to legally represent the group members (Travellers) and that the Group leader is permitted to make and receive declarations on behalf of the group members. If travel vouchers are dispatched, they shall be sent solely to the Group leader for the whole tour group. Payments shall be processed exclusively through the Group leader with debt discharging effect.
The contractual obligation of LUEX is limited to the proper intermediation of the booked travel-related products and services. The contractual obligations of LUEX do not include the delivery of the booked product or service.
5. Payments, cancellation charges
LUEX is entitled to demand payment of deposits and outstanding amounts in accordance with the general terms and conditions as well as the terms and conditions of payment of the Service provider of the mediated product or service. Payment shall be collected as instructed by the respective Service provider. It is possible that the method of payment accepted by the Service provider may differ from the standard modes of payment used by LUEX or in Germany generally. The details are to be found in each of the offerings respectively. To the extent that nothing to the contrary has been agreed, the following shall apply:
Following receipt of the payment request, payment of the deposit indicated on the payment request is to be made in a single payment within one week by means of the payment method indicated. The deposit shall be at least 25% of the total price of the travel-related products or services that have been booked. The outstanding amount for the travel-related products or services is to be paid no later than 30 days prior to the commencement of travel as a single payment by means of the payment method indicated without any further request for payment. In the case of tour groups, the Group leader is responsible for ensuring consistent payment processing. The total price of a tour booked at short notice (within 30 days of tour commencement) is due immediately.
If due payments are not made or not made in full and the Traveller/Group leader does not pay after a reminder with a final due date, LUEX or the Service provider are able to withdraw from the particular agreement, unless LUEX or the Service provider is already responsible for a significant flaw, failing or shortcoming at this time. If the Traveller is responsible for the cancellation, LUEX or the Service provider can demand compensation in accordance with the agreed fixed rates for compensation. If nothing else has been stipulated within the offer/travel confirmation, the fixed rate in the event of the Traveller cancelling more than 30 days prior to departure is 25% of the price of the tour. The Traveller/Group leader is entitled to provide evidence of lower costs or costs that did not eventuate, while LUEX is free to calculate and demonstrate substantially higher costs.
LUEX assumes no currency risks. In order to minimise currency risks, LUEX shall exchange the travel payments received into the target currency of the country of the respective Service provider as soon as possible after receipt of payment. In the event of major currency fluctuations, the Traveller/Group leader shall indemnify LUEX against any proven currency exchange losses. Reimbursements shall be made solely by means of bank transfers in the currency of the recipient. Bank fees and charges shall be borne by the Traveller/Group leader.
If the Traveller/Group leader pays by bank transfer, LUEX can only facilitate a smooth booking process if the Traveller/Group leader uses the designated booking ID in the purpose field of the bank transfer which is specified in the request for payment. Otherwise LUEX may not be able to assign the payment to the correct booking. A failure to do that correctly can result in the cancellation of a trip in the worst-case scenario.
If the Traveller wishes to book not as a private individual, but as a business traveller acting on instructions or as a legal representative, this must be noted already during the booking process and cannot be subsequently altered. This can have taxation consequences and should therefore be carefully considered.
The customer shall receive a payment receipt in the form of a booking confirmation from LUEX showing the total price, either paid or to be paid to the Service provider.
6. Alterations, cancellations, reimbursements
In the event that a confirmed booking is modified or cancelled, LUEX is to be contacted as quickly as possible in this matter such that a possible solution can be sought in consultation with the Traveller/Group leader. Additional costs that result for LUEX or the Service provider shall be borne by the Traveller/Group leader, whereby LUEX reserves the right to invoice a minimum fee of €50 for changes demanded solely by the Traveller.
Should there be a modification or cancellation by LUEX / the Service provider, LUEX shall also contact the Traveller/Group leader as soon as possible and seek a possible solution.
LUEX notes explicitly that as an intermediary LUEX cannot assume responsibility for the performance of the Service provider. In particular, LUEX offers individual travel-related products and services to exotic destinations. The Traveller recognises that booking and processing these products and services are more difficult and that a higher degree of flexibility is expected of these than for mass tourism.
7. Complaints and ratings
Should the Traveller be dissatisfied with an aspect of the travel-related product or service received in a particular case and wish to submit a complaint, they are to approach the Service provider or their representative directly at the location during their current stay so that this person can attempt to solve the problem. LUEX recommends notifying the Service provider in text form that documents the shortcomings, if possible with the aid of photos.
If the problem cannot be resolved during the stay, the Service provider must be contacted within 30 days of returning from the trip. The Service provider should then respond to the correspondence according to the applicable laws and regulations. Receipt should be confirmed in 14 days and a full response received within 28 days. If this is not the case, an explanation for the delay should be received from the Service provider.
Should the travel-related product or service not match the description on the LUEX platform, the customer must approach the Service provider or their representative directly at the location during the customer's stay. LUEX shall support customers with respect to their complaint. LUEX is to be informed of the facts involved in the situation as soon as possible in order to be able to assist in finding a solution.
The Service provider is to be contacted immediately in the event of flight or transportation problems. Customers are to check information and the general terms and conditions given to customers via the Service provider before the commencement of travel.
8. Visa, passport and travel regulations
The Traveller/Group leader shall pay attention to the special visa, passport and travel regulations for the Travellers and their country of destination. LUEX makes every effort to inform customers as comprehensively and accurately as possible. To the extent that LUEX draws attention to particular details, this can only be considered as non-binding information. Considering the high number and frequency of possible amendments to regulations, Travellers/Group leaders are requested to contact the relevant embassy/consulate for the particular destination. In this respect LUEX can assume no responsibility whatsoever for any assurance, guarantee, currency or accuracy of the information. The information provided by Travellers’ ministries of foreign affairs are a reliable source with respect to many travel destinations.
It is the sole responsibility of the Traveller/Group leader to ensure that all Travellers are in possession of all requisite travel documents (passport, Visa, etc.) at the commencement of travel and that all Travellers fulfil the health requirements.
9. Insurance
To the extent that it is not expressly offered, insurance cover does not constitute part of the travel-related products and services offered. LUEX recommends that customers take out travel insurance, in particular travel cancellation cost insurance and in certain circumstances overseas travel insurance, including an overseas health cover component. LUEX names a reliable partner offering the relevant insurance policies to its customers at: http://www.luex.com/info/insurances.html.
10. Liability, responsibility
LUEX depends on the information provided to it by the Service providers with respect to the details of the travel-related goods and services. LUEX has only extremely limited opportunities to check such information with respect to their accuracy and completeness. Consequently, LUEX is unable to provide any guarantees or assurances with respect to the completeness, accuracy or currency of such information. The same applies for any other information made available by third parties.
LUEX is not liable for the availability of the travel-related product or service at the time of booking or for the performance of the booked travel-related product or service by the Service provider.
Within the scope of its performance obligations, LUEX is only liable for any losses that may result in the following cases, irrespective of legal grounds: The statutory regulations shall apply with the following restriction: Liability or minor negligence on the part of LUEX or its vicarious agents is excluded, provided that neither an essential contractual obligation was breached nor is there a case of initial incapacity, impossibility or default on the part of LUEX. Otherwise liability is limited to the value of the travel-related products and services booked, in any case however to predictable and typical losses. The exclusions of liability or facilitation shall apply in the same manner to the executive bodies of LUEX, as well as to their vicarious agents.
Travellers and Group leaders shall be liable to LUEX for each and every reservation/booking that is made in bad faith or with deceitful intent or with erroneous or incomplete personal data. The opportunity to book travel-related goods and services may only be utilised in order to make legal bookings as a Traveller or as a Group leader for a third party. At the same time, in utilising the offerings the Group leader guarantees that they are authorised and are permitted to act in the name of fellow travellers. In the event that there is a breach of these guarantee, the Group leader is liable without limitation to LUEX and their respective Service providers for the losses resulting from the aforesaid person’s actions.
In many countries there are safety standards that differ from those generally found in Europe, Australia or the USA. Travelers/Group leaders are strongly encouraged, also in their own interest, to access information once again immediately before commencing travel in accessible sources, such as the internet pages of the Foreign Office, with respect to changes in the travel regulations and safety warnings for the country of destination.
11. Final provisions
Should business terms and conditions or parts of the agreement be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining parts of the agreements shall not be affected.
Amendments or additions to all agreements, including a divergence from these general terms and conditions, are only possible in text form (written, by fax or e-mail). Oral agreements require written confirmation to be valid.
All communication between LUEX and a Traveller/Group leader is to be undertaken by e-mail if possible. The Traveller/Group leader therefore promises to receive and read e-mails and implement the information/instructions from LUEX accordingly. LUEX must be informed immediately of changes in contact details.
All contractual relations between LUEX, its customers and Service providers are subject exclusively to German law - with the exception of the UN Contract for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) convention. Köln shall be the mutually agreed place of jurisdiction for non-German Travellers.

While we wish we could control the weather, we do not. Occasionally we cannot ski and often those times are for your safety. We hope you recognize that we want to be out there skiing as much as you do!
Instances when we might not be able to ski include; snow stability issues, unfavourable weather, mechanical issues or an unforeseen emergency.
We have strict payment and refund policies. For this reason we ask all our clients to thoroughly read the information supplied on our website before registering for a heliskiing tour.
The reservation and cancellation policies outlined are more or less standard in the heli-skiing industry.
CANCELLATION INSURANCE
We strongly recommend purchasing cancellation insurance. Once a booking is made significant expenses and long term commitments are incurred on your behalf. For this reason we are not prepared to offer refunds if you are later forced to cancel.
In addition, we recommend buying medical evacuation insurance. If you are injured while skiing and need to be flown to the hospital or back to the lodge, the cost of the flight will be billed to your account.
For both your protection and ours, we strongly recommend that you to book cancellation and evacuation insurance online with Lifestyle Financial. Their policy covers both Canadians and Non-Canadians (Note - if you are Non-Canadian, the information pertaining to you in their policy is after the information for Canadians).
CANCELLATIONS
Deposits are non-refundable.
If you need to cancel your trip after having paid the deposit, but before the balance payment, you have the following options;
- You can re-schedule to a later date within the season in which you are booked (plus pay if there's a season pricing difference)
- You can find someone new to take over your booking and reimburse you privately
If your substitute takes up your seat with Bella Coola Heli Sports, we will credit any money that you have paid to us toward the balance owing on your substitute's seat. We will leave it to you and your substitute to determine how you recoup the payments credited to the substitute's benefit. While we cannot revise our cancellation policy, we hope that our acceptance of your substitute will offset the effects of our policy.
If you need to cancel your trip after the balance has become due, you have the following options;
- We can try and sell your seat on your behalf. If we are able to sell it, we will credit your account for the amount we sold it for, minus an administration fee, which you can use towards a new trip within the same season
- You can find someone new to take over your booking and reimburse you privately
Other considerations;
- If you cancel your seat after you have paid the deposit, we will not refund the deposit and will open up your space to another person
- We will consider that you have cancelled your seat if we do not receive the balance payment 90 days before your trip start date
Please note that Bella Coola Heli Sports reserves the right to cancel your reservation.
Special note on all flight changes: If you are unable to arrive/depart on our scheduled flights for the start or end date of your package, the cost to re-book you on another flight is $400.
REFUND POLICIES
*** IMPORTANT info for those booking Vertical programs
The helicopter costs of operating your heli-skiing week are by far the most expensive part of your package. We cannot afford to fly with an empty seat. This necessitates a strict policy: EACH GUEST IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COSTS OF THEIR SEAT.
If you decide to sit out a run in order to rest, or get injured and are unable to continue skiing/boarding, your vertical account will register the amount skied by the group you were assigned to, not the vertical you actually skied. We sympathize with those that miss out on skiing, but this policy insures that we are able to continue flying and are able to fulfill our obligations to the other guests.
By way of further explanation, imagine that your helicopter is a taxi and you are four friends taking a ride. If one or two people ask to be dropped off half way to the destination, the overall cost of the taxi ride does not change.
Similarly, if for whatever reason you request to fly back to the lodge or your guide deems it necessary for you to be flown out; you will be billed for the costs of the extra flying time incurred by the company in returning you to the valley before the heliski day is finished. The costs will vary depending on the amount of flight time required. If it does become necessary for you to be flown out because of an injury, we suggest that you submit the costs of the evacuation to your insurance company.
There is also no refund for down days per se; however, if bad weather or mechanical breakdown prevents us from providing you with the total vertical or the flying time included in the program, we will refund according to the formulas listed below.
