Low Pressure's Stormrider Surf Guide says:
The bulk of Nicaragua’s coastline makes up the Mosquito Coast on the Caribbean side, where an extensive, shallow shelf drains what meager swells are available. Most of Nicaragua’s known surf spots are concentrated in the developed southwest corner where a narrow stretch of coastline separates Lake Nicaragua (the largest lake in Central America) from the Pacific. This huge body of water creates the perfect atmospheric conditions, causing winds to blow offshore for most of the year, around the San Juan Del Sur area. Surfing in Nicaragua started to grow a decade ago as the newly established democracy allowed the return of a bunch of self-exiled locals that had discovered surfing in Florida. They then started tapping into their own country’s wealth of excellent beachbreaks and left points.

In Bohios, Beach Villas or in the crown jewel, Casona Don Carlos, make yourself at home
Beach Villas
Seemingly as a gesture of appreciation, the 12 Beach Villas at Mukul were built to pay tribute to the tropical, rolling surf of Playa Manzanillo. Above the entry vestibule hangs a chandelier made from custom-designed mussel shells. Bathrooms include separate his and hers vanity rooms, both leading to a liquid temple of monsoon showers and soaking tubs.
Outside, each Beach Villa includes a wrap-around deck, direct access to the beach, private swimming pool, outdoor lounging palapa and a secret garden with an outdoor shower. For added space, the two-bedroom villas are family compounds with their own private show kitchen, pantry and living room. It's barefoot luxury at its best.
Bohios
Everything about Mukul's Bohios feel like something pulled from a storybook. Perfectly placed 300 feet above the Playa Manzanillo, nestled like tree houses in the lush rainforest canopy, these 621 square-foot houses offer solace, privacy and luxury while remaining uniquely Nicaraguan. Built of sustainable native teak and pine, each of the 23 Bohios feature floor-to-ceiling glass perfectly framing the sapphire sea below. A sliding glass door leads onto a sweeping wooden deck with a private plunge pool and separate lounging veranda with custom daybed. The spacious bathroom is surfaced in Nicaraguan travertine marble and includes a wet room, double vanity, spacious walk-in closet and double-headed shower. The furniture, fabrics and lighting fixtures also lend to the authentic feel of a posh sanctuary handcrafted in a refined local style.
Casona Don Carlos
Casona Don Carlos is the Pellas family’s private beach residence and the crown jewel of Nicaragua's Emerald Coast. Located adjacent to the Beach Villas, the oceanfront compound features a 20,000 square-foot indoor-outdoor living area with soaring 80-foot-high palapa ceilings, four bedroom suites, a wrap-around stone terrace, a large private swimming pool, and direct access to the beach and ocean.
When the Pellas family is not in residence, guests will be welcome to roam around its open-air living spaces, as if they were guests of Don Carlos Pellas himself. Casona Don Carlos may only be booked by guests as one accommodation.
